The Challenge

Adult Education Pathways found that data was not being collected as accurately as it could have been. Also, due to the large geographical size of our region, potential students were unaware there were adult schools nearby. Potential students typically thought adult education was only offered in Yreka or Weed, which could be too far away for participation.

The Solution

It was decided to have a one-stop shop for transitional coordination and data management located at Siskiyou Training & Employment Program, Inc.-STEP, Inc., our Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act partner.

STEP, Inc. now does our intakes and refers students to the closest service provider. STEP, Inc. also inputs all data submitted by sites into TE. This allows for accurate and timely processing of data. The STEP, Inc. transitional coordinator also helps students transition into the next phase of their life (job or more education).

Outcomes

This model has really helped the consortium submit timely and accurate reports and has also allowed students to continue their education or find career opportunities within the area where they live. It has been mutually beneficial to have a "one-stop shop."

The Data

Our data manager has submitted all reports on time since AEP began using the STEP, Inc. office as the data manager. Also, students have told AEP that they never knew there was adult education close enough to them to participate. Being able to let potential students know we exist throughout the county has been so helpful.
