The AEBG requirement to implement common assessments and data management to align the reporting of adult education program outcomes presented a challenge to the VVAERC as only one of six members was experienced with CASAS assessments and TE. The region met monthly with school principals and front-line staff in order to identify resources needed to address the gaps in resources, the manner in which data was being collected, and exchange best practices.
The VVAERC Data & Accountability Regional Team initially held monthly Data & Accountability Meetings to discuss best practices on implementing and aligning AEBG data reporting . The team identified the tools that were needed in order for each member to carry out the AEBG program reporting. Allocations were granted to each members needing CASAS testing equipment and supplies. The consortium provided members who needed it with a shared CASAS testing support staff. Due to the success of the monthly Regional Data & Accountability Meetings, the region continues to host quarterly meetings at various member schools throughout the region. With each member taking turns to host, staff has the opportunity to view the testing lab and setup.
As a result, all adult education members have the appropriate tools and training to assess students and complete data reporting as required by CAEP. In addition, the ongoing quarterly meetings include guest speakers , CASAS training, and a consistent forum for staff to discuss data outcomes and strategies to continue enhancing the Data & Accountability collection process and outcomes. Members have continued to collaborate as a team to enhance D&A practices and serve one another as a resources to achieve the CAEP goals and objectives.
The outcome of the Data & Accountability Staff meetings is to ensure that all adult education schools in the Victor Valley Region have the necessary tools, training and contact information for locally trained data staff to ensure appropriate data collection and reporting. Staff responsible for CASAS assessments, data reporting and input continue to participate in quarterly meetings and training.
