The Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) Adult Education Student Information (SIS) System was outdated (operationalized in 1987) and lacked basic functionalities needed to support LAUSD’s Adult Education program. This system lacked the ability to: (1) electronically track key objectives for funding which may include enrollment data, student progress and outcomes, post-completion transition into the workforce and higher education, and counseling services, (2) inability to have quality and timely data, and (3) inability to stay competitive and grow as it lacks workflow and features to recruit, engage, and market which are critical to attract and retain students.
LAUSD’s Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE) contracted with Focus School Software, LLC to customize an Adult Student Information System (DACE-SIS) that will address and support the needs of LAUSD’s Adult Education program.
LAUSD’s Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE) implemented the first phase of the new DACE-SIS system effective July 1, 2019. The DACE-SIS system will integrate the functionalities of the legacy SIS system with state-of-the-art functionalities needed to support students along their unique educational pathway including personalized counseling. The system will be utilized to support student registration, attendance monitoring, maintaining class schedules, grading which may involve updating of student transcripts and or updating/issuance of competency certificates, recording services provided to students, and maintaining on-line Individual Student Plans (ISP) with the goal of better serving the needs of our adult education students.
Implementation is currently underway. Outcome data will be available by the end of SY 2019-2020. Expected outcomes: improved reporting, student tracking, better and faster intake procedures, enhanced transitions, and student counseling.
